Work Experience Program

Get a Taste of the electrical Industry – Hands-On and Real-World

Our Work Experience Program offers high school students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the electrical trade. Whether you’re curious about becoming an industrial electrician or exploring a future in engineering, this program provides valuable insight into what a day in the life of a tradesperson or engineer really looks like.

  • Real-World Learning: Work alongside experienced professionals on real job sites and projects.
  • Team Connection: Meet our team and get a feel for the culture of a professional electrical contracting business.
  • Daily Routine: Practice getting up early, arriving on time, and immersing yourself in a hands-on work environment.
  • Career Insight: Learn how the electrical trade works from the inside out – from tools and safety to teamwork and technical skills.

  • Eligibility: You must be currently attending high school or equivalent (to be covered by workers compensation)
  • Target Group: Designed for Year 11 and 12 students.
  • Location: Based at our Wacol depot.
  • Duration: 1 – 2 weeks (maximum)

Student Testimonial – Sienna

Work Experience Participant – April 2025

“Touring the workshop and seeing how everything worked was really cool! I especially enjoyed spending time with the IT team and working on program engineering with Hanna.  Everyone was so supportive and welcoming – I could definitely see myself working here in the future.”

Sienna joined us for a one-week placement where she rotated through several departments including IT Engineering, Control Systems, Power Systems, and Project Management.  She gained hands-on experience with IO lists, PLC basics, and coding, and left with a new interest in IT Engineering as a potential career path.

“The experience was even better than I expected.  I’d absolutely recommend it to other students!”

Sienna’s time with us is a great example of how our Work Experience Program helps students explore real-world career options in a supportive and engaging environment.

Student Testimonial – Hamish

Electrical Work Experience Participant – May 2025

“I really enjoyed the whole experience.  It was different from anything I’d done before – I got to try sheetmetal work and test & tag, which were completely new to me.  The team was great – approachable, had a laugh, and made me feel welcome.”

Hamish joined us from The Industry School – Electrical Academy for a 2-week placement in our Industrial Services unit.  He gained hands-on experience in sheetmetal and electrical testing, learning practical skills like locking a drill properly, changing sandpaper, and applying test & tag stickers.

“I learnt heaps!  It was great to be part of a team where people could have fun but also get the job done.  I’d definitely recommend this to other students.”

Hamish was praised by his supervisors for his punctuality, presentation, and strong communication skills.  His positive attitude and willingness to learn made him a standout participant in our program.
